The Chautauqua County-sponsored “Responder
Firefighter
Incentive
for
Recruitment
and
Education”
scholarship program was developed as a way to
recruit and retain volunteers in response to a critical
need identified by our County’s volunteer fire
departments and emergency medical service
providers.
This program is a direct result of the cooperative and
collaborative effort between the County Executive, the County
Legislators, the Office of Emergency Services, the Fire Advisory
Board, the Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs, and Jamestown
Community College.
The R-FIRE program is available to full and part-time students
entering JCC. Approved applicants under the R-FIRE scholarship
program are eligible for partial to full tuition assistance paid
upon acceptance into or membership of one of Chautauqua County’s
42 volunteer fire companies or emergency service agencies and
completion of the academic program of their choice at any of the
Jamestown Community College locations.
Scholarship amount will be pro-rated based on the number of
recipients and full-time semesters and/or credit hours.
In addition to maintaining volunteer activity, training levels
and certain academic objectives during their course of
study, R-FIRE recruits must commit to a service obligation of
five (5) years (three (3) years post-education).
